On 23 September 2011, ORF announced that their national selection will stay the same. The radio station Hitradio Ö3 once again played an important role.
On 30 November 2011, ORF announced nine acts that qualified directly for the national final, which took place on 24 February 2012. The line-up of ten finalists was completed through an open call for songs. The interested artists were able to submit their entries until the end of December, and over 100 songs were submitted. On 9 January 2012, ORF announced that Mary Broadcast Band had been selected as the tenth act in the final. The finalist songs will be aired from 9 January 2012 on Hitradio Ö3.
